How I Experience Tummo Reiki

Experiencing Tummo Reiki

Tummo Reiki

For those who want to know more about Reiki or want to have a better idea about how the various forms of Reiki differ, I decided to post how I personally experience the various forms of Reiki that I use and teach, dedicating a blog to each form.

I also try to draw out what is particularly unique about one type of Reiki, e.g., Tummo Reiki for awakening the Kundalini.

In this blog series, I’m writing from the practitioner’s point of view, not the client’s. Everyone perceives or experiences energy a bit differently so please take this information to be a personal account and not an objective or more universal description.

Here is a link to How I Experience Integrated Energy Therapy (IET), another energy healing modality I practice and teach. I’ll be talking from the practitioner’s point of view, not the client’s.

TUMMO REIKI

This is the one form of Reiki that I practice, but I don’t teach. Level I and Level II Tummo Reiki are fast and easy to attain. After that, the progression through several additional levels tends to take time and a commitment to the Tummo community, and spiritual devotion.

How Tummo Differs From Other Forms of Reiki

In my experience, Tummo Reiki is different from all other forms of Reiki. It’s more restrictive. Meaning, a healer uses it exclusively and not combined with other forms of Reiki or other energy work. Tummo is also prescriptive, leaving little or no room for the practitioners sensing and intuition. The activation of flow, self-healing process, meditations, etc are all executed in a specific way. Altering anything in any way is discouraged.

All of this doesn’t suit me well as an individual and a practitioner, but I do appreciate this unique healing practice. I tend to use it more on myself than on others.

Spiritual Devotion:

Unlike other forms of Reiki. I feel that Tummo Reiki is more like a form of spiritual devotion or worship akin to that of some organized religions. I base this perspective on several attributes unique to Tummo. First the content or text of Tummo meditations. Second, the strict adherence to a specific format of the session. Third, a practitioner cannot add any other forms of Reiki or other modalities of healing to a session. The practitioner must use exclusivity Tummo. Fourth, practitioners must completely surrender to the energy and its flow, acting as nothing but a conduit or “hollow bone.”

Compared to other forms of Reiki, Tummo is less open and flexible. Thus, it’s less able to support an individualized self-healing process. This is a bit off-putting for me because I see Reiki as spiritual, but not dogma or religion. For me, Reiki is about supporting the evolution of the individual’s own unique healing and/or spiritual path whatever that is. It’s more about opening than worshiping. With Reiki, there isn’t just one correct path.

How Tummo Feels:

Heart-Centered Flow

I feel Tummo Reiki energy is strongly in my heart center. I get a kind of gentle pulling sensation in my heart chakra. This isn’t surprising since Tummo is a singularly heart-centered modality. Lots of energy work modalities are heart-centered, but Tummo Reiki’s focus on the heart goes beyond all other forms of energy work I’ve experienced or read about. The practitioners are supposed to keep their attention on their heart center throughout the entire session.

Other than the heart-tugging sensation, I don’t feel much in my hands or my body. I don’t tend to receive intuitive information either. In fact, the healing process is uneventful and, to be honest, I’d say a bit dull. Nevertheless, healing does take place. I’ve noted significant change (healing) in myself after self-healing sessions. Likewise, clients have reported good success in the fulfillment of their healing intentions.

Kundalini Energy:

What is Kundalini Energy

Kundalini energy is energy that is coiled at the base of the spine and central light column. This energy column runs from the base of the spine through the top of the head and envelops the seven major chakras). Through meditation and other spiritual practices, Kundalini can be awakened and released. Its release is associated with a great surge in creative and spiritual energy as well as access to deep-seated personal truths.

Tummo and Kundalini Release

What first drew me to Tummo Reiki was my interest in releasing my Kundalini energy. Tummo Reiki is the only form of Reiki that includes a practice of deliberate and immediate release and circulation of Kundalini energy. The practice is coupled with a series of exercises that “wash” the Sushumna (Central Light Column) with the intention of preventing the classical undesirable and uncomfortable Kundalini syndrome experienced with other Kundalini stimulating modalities. This is an important benefit of Tummo Reiki. In fact, these exercises can release excessive stuck energy of any kind.

My Experience With Kundalini Awakening

While Tummo Reiki instructors insist that the Tummo method of Kundalini release is completely safe and comfortable, I’ve found that unless I strictly adhered to and practiced the exercises regularly during the Kundalini release, I suffer from the classic Kundalini syndrome symptoms. In fact, I sometimes continue to feel strong discomfort even when I do the exercises. But, the symptoms do dissipate relatively quickly,

Nothing seems to give me relief except frequent Tummo healing or cleansing sessions. Taking all this into consideration, I’ve still concluded that when I have time to give the Kundalini practice consistent and adequate time and attention, it is quite rewarding.

Remember, this is my personal experience. Others can perceive or experience Tummo Reiki quite differently.
