From the perspective of an energy healer and spiritual life coach, healing is inherently multidimensional including all aspects of healing the whole person. That is, the mind, body, and spirit.
The truth is, whether treatment is intentionally designed this way or not, the healing will involve the whole person. That’s because it’s just not possible for a person to compartmentalize who they are or how their healing unfolds.
What distinguishes this truly holistic approach and conventional medicine is that the former embraces and works with this reality of wholeness while the latter does not. Fortunately, this divide is closing albeit ever so slowly.
Blending Mind, Body, and Spirit to Heal the Whole Person
I started my practice about 20 years ago with energy healing. Reiki to be exact. Subsequently, I added several other energy healing modalities as well as shamanic practices. Still, my approach and sessions were primarily all about balancing my client’s life-force energy which, in turn, would bring about healing. In this way, we could address all kinds of imbalances whether physical, emotional, mental, spiritual, or even interpersonal or aspirational.
Since everything is energy, you’d think manipulating energy would have been enough to heal anything. But, it’s not that simple. First and foremost, energy healing is self-healing. In other words, energy work is not doing something to someone, but rather, helping someone do something for themselves. This means clients heal themselves on any and all levels – mind, body, and spirit.
And, an important implication of this is the more open a client is to their own ability to heal, the greater, quicker, and more complete their healing will be. I’ve seen this over and over again.
In Reality, Healing Takes More Than An Energy Session
It’s one thing to rebalance a client’s energy and another for them to retain it. This is easier to understand and embrace with an example.
Let’s say a client comes in complaining of stress, poor sleep, and an inability to advance at work. Obviously, all three complaints could be related. After one healing session, the client’s stress is reduced, which enables them to get better sleep at least until their negative thoughts about work and the inability to advance set in and recreate this trio of issues. Naturally, the client would then come in for another session to repeat the cycle.
To break this cycle, my client has to become consciously involved in their healing. By adding spiritual life coaching to my healing services, I’m able to help my client do this, and take greater control of their well-being, develop self-reliance, gain confidence, and become more resilient. We do this by working with the whole person and giving attention to the mind, body, and spirit.
For the mind, we address negative thoughts and limiting beliefs about the client’s potential and options. In addition, the client learns to distinguish between thoughts, feelings, and their true emotions. Certain coaching techniques are central to this process, but energy healing can still be quite impactful (e.g., Integrated Energy Therapy or IET)
For the body, I teach mindfulness practices as well as techniques for tuning into the body, listening to what it is trying to say, and, as a consequence, acquainting themselves with their authentic self. And, what the body teaches, the mind can learn.
For the spirit, we use energy healing, chakra therapy, and other practices related to finding meaning, articulating aspirations, and manifestation. This work can also source the mind and body to enrich the spirit.
Working with both clients and myself, I’ve experienced the power and benefit of engaging the whole person, seeing all the connections, and compassionately discovering solutions that are tailored specifically and uniquely to an individual.
