A Clear Throat Chakra | The Key to Express Yourself

Blue geometric pattern for the throat chakra to express your selfMany people have some difficulty with feeling comfortable or being able to express themselves. Chances are you do too, at least sometimes or in some circumstances. This can happen for any number of reasons, one of which is a weak throat chakra. When working with chakras and energy healing, a clear Throat Chakra (Vishuddha) is key to how you express yourself.

A clear throat chakra is basically the same as a well-functioning or balanced one. The chakra is not weak or under-functioning or too strong and hyper-functioning.

How the Throat Chakra Relates to How You Express Yourself

The Throat or Blue Chakra is located in the middle of your throat and governs the physical organs and functions within and associated with your throat.

The Throat Center (also known by its Sanskrit name Vishuddha) governs your ability to communicate, selfexpression, and your ability to speak your truth. As with all energy centers, it doesn’t do this in isolation but rather in consort with all the other energy centers as well as the bodily systems.

For example, to speak and act in alignment with your passion, creativity, or soul’s purpose requires collaboration from the Heart, Sacral, Third-Eye, and Soul Star Chakras, respectively, or even collectively. In truth, everything about you is an expression of your mind, body, and spirit.

Signs That the Throat Chakra is Blocked

A blocked Throat Center simply means that its energy flow is obstructed and less than optimal. In other words, you have an imbalanced Throat Chakra. This situation will ultimately, but not necessarily immediately produce telltale signs.

Weak or blocked energy can cause constriction, inaction, or inability to communicate while surplus energy can lead to excessive talking, rambling disorganized speech, or crowding out others.

Some Common Signs of An Imbalanced Throat Chakra:

  • Difficulty putting thoughts and feelings into words
  • Trouble expressing your inner voice
  • Shy demeanor or even social anxiety
  • Fear of or resistance toward public speaking
  • Stuttering, hesitation, or freezing while speaking
  • Tendency to speak before thinking
  • Longorhea or excessive speech often without fluidity and clarity
  • Bold, opinionated, or inflated speech
  • Feeling stuck and unable to make decisions or take action
  • Lack of or limited creative expression
  • Mouth, dental, throat, neck, thyroid gland, hormonal, and respiratory issues

Signs of a Clear and Balanced Throat Chakra:

  • Can easily express yourself
  • Comfortable with public speaking
  • Ability to confidently and effectively communicate
  • Good command of appropriate body language and cues and an awareness of others’ communication cues
  • Good listening skills
  • Creative and imaginative
  • In touch with your inner voice and able to speak your truth
  • Able to articulate, act upon, and manifest your preferences and intentions
  • Healthy mouth, teeth, neck, thyroid, and respiratory system

Comparing the signs of both a block or imbalanced and a clear and balanced throat chakra immediately illustrates how important this energy center is to effectively and authentically express yourself.

Two Simple Ways to Balance and Clear the Throat Chakra

Sound and toning the throat chakra is the easiest way to clear it, and it can be practiced toning can be practiced anywhere. Bija (mantra) or balancing sound frequency is ham or hum. Interestingly, you don’t need to make an audible sound to be effective. Silently humming or gently forcing air up or down your throat while imagining and engaging the mouth and throat muscles that express the bija will work as well.

You can also scent the air or wear aromatics such as essential oils and hydrosols that balance the throat chakra. For more on which aromatics, see my blog post, Balance Your Throat Chakra Naturally.
